Exhibition on 120 Years of Local Democracy

An exhibition launch to celebrate 120 Years of Local Democracy

April 2019 marks the 120th anniversary of local democracy in Ireland. A Department-funded mobile exhibition, compiled and curated by the Local Authority Archivists and Record Managers, detailing the key local government events over the past 120 years, is now on display across the country, as listed below:

  • Kerry County Council: October 21st - November 4th 2019
  • Cork County Council: November 4th - November 18th 2019
  • Offaly County Council: November 1st - December 2nd 2019
  • Roscommon County Council: November 18th - December 2nd 2019
  • Waterford City and County Council: December 2nd 2019  - January 31st 2020
  • Kildare County Council: December 2nd 2019 - February 28th 2020

This list will be updated as local authority venues are confirmed.  Otherwise, check your local authority website for details of all events including the exhibition.

Mr John Paul Phelan T.D., Minister of State for Local Government and Electoral Reform hosted a reception at the Custom House on 18 April, 2019, to mark the 120th anniversary of the first local elections and to launch the exhibition.
