Exhibition on 120 Years of Local Democracy

An exhibition launch to celebrate 120 Years of Local Democracy

April 2019 marks the 120th anniversary of local democracy in Ireland. A Department-funded mobile exhibition, compiled and curated by the Local Authority Archivists and Record Managers, detailing the key local government events over the past 120 years, is now on display across the country, as listed below:

  • Louth County Council:  May 2nd May -  22nd 2019
  • Monaghan County Council: May 22nd - June 5th 2019
  • Limerick City Council: May 17th - June 5th 2019
  • Meath County Council: June 24th - July 8th 2019
  • Clare County Council: June 5th - June 24th 2019
  • Galway City Council: June 24th - July 8th 2019
  • Mayo County Council: July 8th - July 22nd 2019
  • Cavan County Council: July 9th - July 22nd 2019
  • Dun Laoighaire Rathdown lexion Library: July 22nd - August 30th 2019
  • South Dublin County Council: September 2nd - September 16th 2019
  • Tipperary County Archives: September 5th - September 26th 2019
  • Kilkenny County Council: September 26th - October 14th 2019
  • Kerry County Council: October 21st - November 4th 2019
  • Cork County Council: November 4th - November 18th 2019

Mr John Paul Phelan T.D., Minister of State for Local Government and Electoral Reform hosted a reception at the Custom House on 18 April, 2019, to mark the 120th anniversary of the first local elections and to launch the exhibition.
